Saddam Hussein Must Die

The clock is ticking down for Saddam Hussein. He had his day in court (which actually lasted several years) and now awaits execution sometime before January 27 of 2007. I say sooner is better! The party that supports Hussein is already threatening reprisals if the execution takes place as planned. What more are they going to do? With the help of Iran they have already laced the roads with IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) that kill people daily, and they routinely blow up both civilian and military targets of opportunity. If it was within their power to wrest control of the government away from the current leaders they would have done so already. Further, I can guarantee if Hussein is NOT executed these attacks will NOT stop. No, the threat of reprisals ring pretty hollow in a country scarred by terrorist violence on a daily basis.
Allowing Saddam Hussein to live is the worst thing that could happen in Iraq. Any legitimacy or credibility the current government now has would crumble under the perception of weakness and fear. Worse than that, Hussein could become an islamic version of Nelson Mandela, perceived to be unjustly imprisoned. We don't need to give islamic radicals another martyr to rally around. When Hussein is executed, the radicals supporting him will blow up a few things in his name (targets they were already planning to blow up, I might add) and then move on. But, left alive Hussein remains a figure of power in an unstable region who still has a cadre of loyal supporters. One small shift of power in this region (such as a US withdrawal) and Hussein could find himself liberated and back on top. If that were to happen the US would be humiliated in so public a fashion that our credibility might be lost forever.
It is time for Saddam Hussein to join his victims. This execution must happen! This is the only way to close the door on the old regime forever. It also gives Iraq a new opportunity to strengthen the current government and begin to restore peace in their country.

The middle east was SAFER with Saddam in charge. Iran was kept in check, Pakistan didn't have the bomb, and oil flowed like the Colorado River. Now it's ready for an eruption.

Assuming that is true, do you believe peace would be restored to the region by returning Saddam Hussein to power?

I agree with mr. beer belly on this one. unfortunately, we can't go back. it is going to take a very wise new regime in the U.S. to undo all the damage bush has done!

Saddam kept Iran in its place and he kept his own people from butchering each other. Having killed some 700,000 Iraqi men, women, and children in two wars spanning some 15 years, the USA has no moral authority to sanction any puppet government or to kill the elected leader of a country in this illegal war. Now the USA will have to fight Iran soon, or make another hasty retreat like in Vietnam, another stupid war. Maybe this time after the USA has depleted its treasury it will think twice about foreign adventures that serve no purpose. Of course the FAT CATS in charge of building the war machine will not be profiting so well, and OIL which was 14 dollars a barrel before these wars is now extremely profitable for the other FAT CATS that control BIG OIL.

Euroyank, please cite your source for the 700,000 Iraqi's killed by America. That is simply an incomprehensible number and I won't believe it unless you back it up. Provide a credible source that can be corroborated and I will consider it.
As for the elected leader, if you call killing the families of those who don't vote for you duly elected, then there is very little else to discuss.

I do not approve of Saddam Hussien, however, he did nothing wrong according to the laws of Iraq. We do not invade other countries and put their leader on trial for wiping out communities for whatever reason, it is not our business. Bush was hellbent on invading Iraq and even presented fabricated evidence to the UN to try to get their approval and support. They still done their job and said their is not enough evidence showing that Iraq is a threat to ANY other country. The UN was set up to keep other countries from invading and occupying other countries just because they are powerful enough to do so. Bush told them if they would not back us up, we would go it alone. He then bribed Tony Blair (the only substantial allie) as well as a few minority countries to join us so that it would not look to Americans like Bush is just doing whatever he wants to, but the truth is, the United Nations failed to do everything they were supposed to do, which is to protect smaller countries from invasions that have not been approved by the UN. The fact is, they should have told Bush, if he invades Iraq, the rest of the UN members would send military to protect Iraq. YES, YOU HEARD ME RIGHT, they should have done what they would and have done for any other country being invaded without clear and concise proof that they are a threat to other countries. With that said, Bush should be arrested, held without bond, and tried for war crimes in a legetimate court or a mickey mouse court run by Iraq, in much the same way we ran the mickey mouse trial of Saddam. Either court would convict him.
Also, I read something very funny this morning. Bush has announced a plan to balance our budget by 2011. What an idiot he truly is. Our budget was balanced already when he was APPOINTED (all the votes should have been counted correctly, a sisth grader could have done it) president. Within 3 years Bush had us further behind than we have ever been in the history of the US. We are so far behind now that I personaly believe our country and our government will crumble to bankrupty within 3 years of him leaving office. I hope the Democrats are smart enough to know that. The Republicans want a Democratic president so they can blame the democrats for the bankruptcy that seems inevitable. Bush has destroyed our credibility and integrity in the eyes of almost every other country in the world. I used to be proud to be an American, now I am ashamed. Thank you Mr. Bush for ruining our country.

Bill,
Since you are now so ashamed to be an American, please feel free to move to any of the other bastions of freedom that guarantee you the same rights and freedoms. I understand property is very reasonably priced in Iraq and with your opinions I should think you would be warmly received.

Andovine,
You act like your talking to some dumb a** that is just blowin' smoke. I am already looking at property in 2 different countries. This is supposed to be a government for the people by the people but instead has become a government by the government for the government. Here's a scenerio...I hope I'm wrong. Without any warning, you wake up some Monday morning, turn on the TV and hear that ALL financial institutions are temporarily closed down. They will say not to panic, e'thing will return to normal in a few days. Your check card, your credit cards are useless. The mighty dollar itself will be rendered useless in a few days because it won't be worth the paper it is written on. Soon, panic sets in, friends and neighbors will be fighting in the streets for mere survival, breaking in store fronts and taking what they need and hoping to get someplace safe with their bounties before the are killed for them. It gets worse before it gets better, but our freedom and rights will never be completely restored. I hope to have already transformed my money into that of the country I have moved to and be sitting comfortably in my home watching this unfold on satelite TV. I will be praying for all the unsuspecting souls that put ALL their trust in a government that that don't care didlee about it's people. And yes, there are some nice countries with good government, Iraq certainly isn't 1 of them, especially now that the US government stuck there nose were it doesnt belong...once again.
